Artist’s statement

I have been turning wood for over thirty years and am still finding it to be as challenging and rewarding as when I started.  Wood has a certain “life”, warmth, chatoyence or “silkiness”.  It provides textures, grains and colors that are challenging and rewarding.  The natural elements of wood can be modified or enhanced with interesting and exciting results.  Turning is my way of exploring what nature has made.  Shapes, tall, short, flat or squat, open. closed are all possible.  However, I find a simple bowl may overflow with rewards upon completion.
